The Best Movies of 2012

Last Updated - September 15, 2013.

This list contains all of the films that I rated 7 and higher of the year 2012.

Teddy Bear
Drama
My Rating - 8/10

In Another Country
Drama
My Rating - 8/10

In my top 10 of 2012.

Sister
Drama
My Rating - 7/10

This films seems to have some perverted tendencies. If you can ignore that then it's actually a breath of fresh air.

Paradise: Love
Drama
My Rating - 9/10

In my top 10 of 2012.

Laurence Anyways
Drama/Romance
My Rating - 7/10

The third film by Xavier Dolan. He's sticking to his old weapons but at the same time moving into the wrong direction. It's in no way bad but it's not as good as the other 2, especially compared to Heartbeats. Needless to say, there's lots of great cinematography to look forward to but unfortunately it's combined with bad pop music.

When Yesterday Comes
Drama
My Rating - 7/10

Four individual short films by four directors. Kind of like last years 10+10, comparable to Old Man & Me but I still prefer that one to these four.

Beyond the Hills
Drama
My Rating - 7/10

After I finished watching it I didn't feel like it's anything too special but the next day after I had digested it I could appreciate it a lot more.

After Lucia
Drama
My Rating - 8/10

In my top 10 of 2012.

Home for the Weekend
Drama
My Rating - 7/10

This slighty reminds me of Afternoon (2007) because of its calm manner and where it takes place. If the story wasn't so unoriginal it could have been excellent.

Mercy
Drama
My Rating - 7/10

This film has the same problem as Home for the Weekend. However, I do enjoy films that take place in the far north, the scenery is beautiful. I also like the other film of the director called The Free Will, which is actually the main reason I gave this one a shot. The actors did a very good job too.

Like Someone in Love
Drama
My Rating - 8/10

In my top 10 of 2012.

Just the Wind
Drama
My Rating - 9/10

What Richard Did
Drama
My Rating - 7/10

Richard didn't do anything shocking, I expected something else. The reasons I like this is firstly because it takes place in Ireland and secondly because of how peaceful it is, there's some great stills like the one below.

Children of Sarajevo
Drama
My Rating - 7/10

Films like this always remind me of where I grew up. It's beautiful and honest, that's all I have to say.

Kauwboy
Family
My Rating - 7/10

In my top 10 of 2012.

90 Minutes
Drama
My Rating - 7/10

Three stories revolving around three men. It basically shows you what human beings are capable of doing in different troubling situations.

Kill Me
Drama
My Rating - 7/10

The same old story of two very different characters creating a bond but it's more memorable than most of them. I especially like the scene where she plays ball with the kids and forgets all of her troubles.

People Out There
Drama
My Rating - 7/10

In my top 10 of 2012.

Coming Home
Drama
My Rating - 7/10

In my top 10 of 2012.

Paradise: Faith
Drama
My Rating - 7/10

I am a little bit disappointed by the second part of this trilogy because I like Paradise: Love so much but at least it has the same style so that alone made it worth watching. I was admiring the shots in the dark, especially the one with the storm at the train station. At the end some scenes seemed to drawn-out for me though.

Post Tenebras Lux
Drama
My Rating - 8/10
